Considerations before starting a green roof project:

Is your roof being replaced? The optimal time to add a green roof is during the replacement of your roofing membrane or in new construction.
Can your building support the additional roof dead loads of a minimum 21 lb/sf ?
Does your roof have access for construction activities and crane?
Can you afford $8-25+/s.f. in addition to the membrane/waterproofing?
Is your roof relatively flat or no more than 30 degrees? A slope of more than 2% will require additional structure/cost to hold the media in place.
Consider how you want to use the space which will impact the overall design/thickness of soil/loading and plant selection.
